German Wines

Germany is one of the most underrated wine countries, although they don't produce a whole lot of wines, what they do produce, including Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, are elegant and complex, and most importantly, easy to drink. 

For Riesling, it is good to know the following before you make your choice.

Trocken is a dry wine, and Trocken GG is the most premium dry wine.

Kabinett is harvested ripe and is semi-sweet

Spatlese means late harvest complex and sweet

Auslese is select harvest, very complex and sweet

Beerenauslese is select berry harvest, which is a affected by noble rot, and therefore very complex and very sweet

Trockenbeerenauslese is sleet dry berry harvest, which is selecting overripe shrivelled grapes affected by noble rot. Very sweet and complex.
