South America, including Chile, and Argentina, have received a lot of attention recently, and for good reason. Chilean and Argentinean wines are bold, big, complex, and great value. Some notable grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah, Malbec, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Unique to the region are Carmenere and Malbec, the former is an amazingly pungent wine with loads of dark fruits and peppery spice, along with green bell pepper, and spoke. Malbec is full body with lots of dark fruits, spices, and tobacco.
