London might not be the first place you think of when you hear the phrase "home of an ancient variety of citrus", but that's what this expression is all about. The Fifty Eight Gin Distillery, located under a railway bridge in Hackney Downs, teamed up with spirits writer Ian Buxton (author of 101 Gins to Try Before You Die - it's a lot less morbid than it sounds) to create CitroLondon Gin! Made with citron fruit, the aforementioned ancient citrus still grown in the capital of England, this London dry gin is a vibrant, refreshing tipple that works great in a Gin Fizz or a White Lady.
Nose: The citron jumps from the glass, fresh and vibrant, followed by an array of other citrus notes: livey orange and grapefruit. Warming earthy spices also come through with a good dose of juniper and fresh leafy notes.
Taste: Thick, mouth-filling citrus and juniper, with other classic London dry notes: coriander, cardamom, angelica.
Finish: Long and lush, morphing into warming spices.
