The 2018 Gabriel Meffre Cotes du Rhone Villages Laurus is a testament to the rich and intense character that the Rhone region is renowned for. This wine, with its inviting notes of roasted plums and a hint of crushed peppercorns, offers a savory palate that is both rounded and softly textured. The blend, dominated by Grenache at 75% and complemented by Syrah at 25%, has been matured predominantly in large-format oak barrels, which contributes to its very fine and integrated tannins. It is a wine that is best enjoyed young, revealing the meticulous care in its winemaking. With an alcohol content of 14%, it pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as grilled lamb chops or roast beef, and can also complement a mushroom risotto or a selection of aged cheeses. A brief decanting of 30 minutes is recommended to allow the wine to express its full array of flavors.
