A varietal Mencía red wine, Avancia Cuvée O de Mencía is produced by Bodegas Avancia, a company owned by Jorge Ordóñez.
The grapes come from two vineyards, one planted in 1920 and the other in 1935. Located at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level, they are oriented to the south and have slate soils.
Made in DO Valdeorras, this Spanish red wine was vinified in a meticulous manner. First, the grapes were hand-harvested, selected and fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts.
After that, Avancia Cuvée O de Mencía 2018 was pressed and then transferred into used French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 8 months on lees. The wine was not filtered before bottling.
We suggest that you decant this red wine from Valdeorras at least 20 minutes before drinking.
Appearance: The red wine Avancia Cuvée de O Mencía is medium ruby with a garnet rim.
Nose: Quite complex, this old-vines Mencía smells of licorice, redcurrants and raspberries, evolving into spices, toast and some mineral undertones .
Palate: This wine from Bodegas Avancia is smooth-textured and fresh. Fruit-driven and energetic, with a zesty acidity, round tannins and a long finish with some smokey, meaty and bloody remembrances.
