The 2019 Rauzan-Gassies exhibits aromas of earthy cassis, burning embers and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium-bodied palate with a delicate core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. It's a nicely balanced, uncomplicated claret, but it remains a comparative underachiever given this estate's history.
The wines are fermented in stainless steel vats from 12 hl to 120 hl to optimize the plot by plot selection. Malolactic fermentations in barrels and stainless-steel vats, and maturation for 12 months in 30-50% new French oak barrels.Harvest from September 17 to 24 for Merlot and September 25 to October 12 for Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinification in stainless steel vats from 12 to 120 hectoliters. Thermo-regulated fermentation. Daily pumping-over. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot. Aged for 12 months in 50% new French oak.
