Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 'La Croix de Beaucaillou' 2019, Saint Julien, Bordeaux France

HK$577.00

An iconic Classified Growth of Saint-Julien, Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou reigns over a prestigious terroir. In the past 300 years, six families have worked ceaselessly to elevate this estate to the international reputation it enjoys today. A property of the Borie family since 1941, the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou takes its name from its terroir of “beautiful pebbles” made up of Gunzian gravel. Under the leadership of Bruno Borie, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has become one of the greatest red wines of Saint-Julien. Vintage after vintage, the estate’s wines have delighted fans of Médoc fine wines around the world.

Produced from a plot-by-plot selection of vines from Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou offers a unique expression of the great terroir of Saint-Julien. This "high-flying" cuvée is made from vines located to the east, center and west of the AOC Saint-Julien.

The singular nature of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is due to the exceptional quality of its vineyard. The vines are planted on Gravel Gunzian and Pyrenean soils deposited by the river almost two million years ago. Out of these lean and poor soils come exceptional wines. The proximity of the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard to the Gironde estuary provides natural protection against the vagaries of the weather.

12 months in Bordeaux-style French oak barrels, 60% new oak, 40% barrels of one previous wine.

Tasted en primeur, the La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2019 presents a deep cherry-black colour. The wine immediately charms the nose with floral and jammy black fruit aromas. Toasted and vanilla notes appear after aeration. The aromatic bouquet seduces with its freshness and delicacy. Upon attack, the wine caresses the palate with its round material and deliciously polished tannins. The palate is quite delicious, revealing notes of black and red fruits, along with slightly woody and toasted notes. The finish is quite persistent and very generous.
