From 60+-year-old vines on alluvial soils in the plain, the 2023 Gewurztraminer Les Folastries opens with classic fruit and floral aromas such as lychees and roses that intermingle with flinty and peppery nuances, which make for a very elegant and rather coolish, also saline and flinty nose with spicy and mineral notes. Full-bodied on the palate, this is a dry yet intense, rich and complex, persistently saline and vivacious Gewürztraminer with remarkable ripeness, density and soul. Dry Gewürztraminer can be great if the vines are old and the yields low enough (33 hectoliters per hectare here). This was bottled with 13.5% stated alcohol, three grams per liter of residual sugar and a Diam 5 cork.
